Turner Falls, Spring Thaw Photo Excursion 2012

Turner Falls Photo Excursion imageSee details below of what your registration includes.

This will be our 7th year of Photo Excursions to the beautiful Arbuckle Mountains of southern Oklahoma.

We will spend a good deal of this trip in Turner Falls Park, but depending on weather conditions may travel to other parts of Southern Oklahoma. Our trip will include the opportunity for 2 sunsets and 2 sunrises if the elements come together for us. Because we will be staying very close to the park there will be plenty of hours spent in the park, so you can take it easy and get all the photos you want to.

Turner Falls Park, the oldest park in Oklahoma, has received national publicity and has served as a classroom for the naturalist. Many springs from the world famous Arbuckle Mountains form Honey Creek which cascades down a seventy-seven (77) foot fall to a natural swimming pool making the majestic Turner Falls the largest waterfall in Oklahoma. The park is accented with beautiful picnic areas, nature trails, caves, geological wonders, and two natural swimming pools very unique in nature.
The Turner Falls area has been described as one of the three geological windows into our past, including the Grand Canyon and the Black Hills of South Dakota.

As early as 1868 Turner Falls was known as a popular recreational area. The City of Davis operates the park and you are welcome to enjoy the 1500 acres of fun .in the "Heart of the Arbuckles".

We will be leaving early on Friday evening with a late arrival in the Davis, OK area, so we will be able to shoot early on Saturday morning. We will be returning late Sunday evening. Turner Falls at night Depending on weather we will make various other stops at interesting photographic locations throughout Southern Oklahoma, like the Wichita Mountains near Lawton.

Departure is from my studio behind Douglas Photographic Imaging and there is plenty of parking available.

Your registration fee includes:

• Transportation.
• Dinner on Friday
• Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner on Saturday & Sunday.

Turner Falls offers:

• 77 ft Waterfall
• 3 Natural Caves
• Rock Castle
• Geological Formations
• Sandy Beaches
• Natural Swimming Areas
• Bath Houses
• Wading Areas
• Hiking Trails

Turner Falls in daylightThis excursion offers plenty of photographic opportunities, but some are NOT accessible from the vehicle. Walking to the falls from the parking lot is approximately 1/2 mile. Although there are places to sit along the way, it is a little bit of a hike on relatively flat pavement. If you are not able to climb steep stairs, or rocks, or rough dirt trails, there are some areas you will not be able to see. The Castle is simply not accessible without steep climbing, nor are the caves. In my opinion, there are still plenty of great things to shoot without strenuous walking or climbing, but consider yourself advised before you register.

Each of the photos shown in this listing were taken from places that almost anyone can get to without any climbing.

We are doing this trip early in the year, and we are going to be into the storms season, so you should be prepared for weather that could be cold, or hot, or wet, or dry. In other words: you should be prepared for weather that could change at a moments notice, just like it does in Kansas. Bring appropriate clothing, jackets, and protection for your camera gear.
